How
does Depilation work ? |
There are two important regions in the
skin which are responsible for hair growth
- The dermal papilla and the bulge
a region of cells which contain the germ
cells which re-seed the follicle
if the dermal papilla is damaged.
It is essential that both of these areas
are destroyed to achieve permanent hair
reduction. Using intense pulses of light
it is possible to heat the hair shaft
which in turn heats the surrounding cells.
It can be seen from the diagram below
that the cells in close contact with the
hair shaft are those which we wish to
kill, i.e. the dermal papilla and the
bulge.

Who can be treated
? |
IPL depilation works
by targeting melanin, therefore the best results
are achieved if the client has dark hair and pale
skin. The XenoliteTM system has been designed
so that each flash of light is actually made up
of a number of shorter pulses. The number and
duration of these mini-pulses is chosen to ensure
that the maximum damage is produced in the hair
follicle whilst causing minimum side effects to
the skin. This allows the XenoliteTM to treat
a broad range of hair and skin types, safely and
effectively. |
How long does the
treatment take ? |
Due to the large treatment
area of the Xenolite systems, an upper lip
will only take a matter of minutes, whilst full
legs take less than an hour. |
How many treatments
are needed ? |
Because of
the nature of hair growth, i.e. that it occurs
in cycles, it is generally recommended that between
four and six treatments will be necessary so that
each cycle will be treated and permanent hair
reduction achieved. |

Is IPL Depilation
Permanent ? |
Once a hair follicle
has been disabled with both the growth and germ
cells having been destroyed, that follicle would
not be expected to spontaneously start re-growing
hair. Though it is unknown for certain (and cannot
yet be known) that IPL produces results for
ever, but we have seen many cases where
no re-growth of hair has occurred for many years
following treatment. |

What precautions
must be taken ? |
There are a number of
pre-treatment recommendations, which range from
absolute contraindications to suggestions which
improve the efficacy of the treatment. A list
of these is provided and must be adhered to on
each treatment occasion. |
Are there examples
of successful treatments ? |
There are many such cases,
below are just a few examples of photos taken
of satisfied clients before and after their treatment.
